Our New Year’s Eve meditation gathering of a few days ago focused on soul qualities. We explored the qualities as attributes that the soul part of us is here to discover, develop, experience and share. For example, have you ever been in a situation where you were in a tough spot and in great need of support? And at the most difficult time someone came to help you and it seemed as though the entire purpose of their existence was to be there for you? The unconditional compassion and love that was shown would be an example of that person being in their heart, helping you and being in alignment with their soul’s purpose.
Within the middle of the meditation we had an exercise that allowed us to tune into each other, one at a time, to notice and write down a soul quality that we felt from that person. It was especially interesting to do with people we didn’t know well, or at all. It was also interesting to notice how some individuals’ soul qualities seemed readily apparent while others required deeper contemplation. Qualities came forward that seemed were there although the individual had yet to discover for themselves. What a two-way gift. At the end everyone was given a little booklet with their personal soul qualities as identified by the group. It was a very joyful way to uplift and support each other in the recognition of that bigger part of each of us.
In the following days as I read through my booklet I found myself sort of skimming through it, feeling as though I already knew a lot of the things written about me. I caught myself. I slowed down and regrouped into the awareness of the sacredness of the book, the words, the exercise and the people that went into its making. I got deeper into my heart and enhanced my focus on each word written. And with each person in my life who feels these qualities from me…well beyond the circle of us present at meditation. These individuals and their input were a representation of my life as a whole and all of whom are a part. Rather than breezing through or brushing off the nature of my heart and soul, I chose to cherish these parts of me. Not only to cherish them, but to use them. I believe it is in the using and expressing of our soul qualities that they become bigger and deeper within us… in turn we become bigger and deeper as individuals. Expanding into greater knowing that – This is who I am!
